Merger Integration
Does any business situation create more tension than the joining of two distinct cultures into one new company? A thoughtful merger integration process will help ensure that the combined operations create a greater value than the individual organizations working independently.
Before: Two International Giants Announce Plans to Merge into the World’s Largest Consumer Goods Company
“The logistics surrounding this proposed corporate merger were staggering. Given the size of our two organizations, we were especially concerned about the human side of the equation. In our combined operations, we had nearly 300 candidates scattered throughout Europe and the United States to fill only 200 executive level positions in the new company. Somehow we had to find a merger integration process which could evaluate all of these people in a timely manner, provide feedback on the future potential of each candidate and create the strongest management team possible.
“We turned to RHR International to assess our management talent pool because we knew they had international merger integration experience, were comfortable dealing with upper level executives, and had the ability to handle the volume in a compressed time frame while still providing sensitive, individualized service.”

“When RHR received this assignment, we immediately put together a merger integration team of seven consultants based in Europe and the United States. In six weeks they completed 291 executive assessments on four continents and produced a recommendation report on each candidate. The findings from the reports were shared during a merger integration meeting with the candidate’s line manager, the company’s HR representatives, and the RHR consultants. Our consultants provided feedback on the future potential of each candidate and recommended candidates for the top 200 positions within the merged company. As part of the merger integration process, individual feedback was offered to each individual candidate by phone.
“Seven years out, the merger was identified as one of the most successful corporate mergers of recent times and one of the few that drove real shareholder value.”
