CEO performance is directly linked to great senior leadership
team performance. That is why we start at the top in our Senior
Team practice. We focus on understanding the CEO’s legacy, impact
and leadership style — the unique DNA of each Chief Executive
Officer — in order to begin the process of developing and strengthening
team “alignment.”
Working closely with the CEO, RHR integrates two other fundamental
factors into the Senior Team model. One is business strategy and
goals, which require clarity, agreement and feasibility. The other
is the operating landscape, defined as threats and opportunities
in the external environment.
THE RHR PROCESS: DEFINE, BUILD
AND OPTIMIZE RHR's consultants begin by
defining the architecture of acceleration. We conduct interviews,
assessments and analysis to engage the senior executive, determine
the skills needed within the team to execute the organization’s
business strategy, and analyze the current structure of the senior
leadership group. We assess the gap between what the CEO wants
the group to be vs. what the organization needs. The right architecture
creates a shared understanding of the current state, as well as
changes needed — critical tasks, along with team configuration,
purpose, accountabilities and decision-making parameters — to
get to the next level.

With the architecture in place, the next step is building the
process that determines what success looks like and how the team
will pursue it. In this phase, we guide the setting of team goals
and norms of behavior, including conflict management, and establish
performance metrics. The third phase of RHR’s Senior Team Effectiveness
program is optimizing high performance. This is where the team
gets down to accelerating results. Improved meeting flow, increased
collaboration, faster decision-making and enhanced feedback processes
all represent outcomes that contribute to the achievement of team
goals.
