July 2, 2019—Dr. Hal Whiting has joined RHR International as a partner based in San Francisco. RHR International is the premier firm in the development of top management leadership of Global 1000 companies.

Hal specializes in helping organizations achieve competitive advantage through talent. He approaches this challenge from multiple angles including individual leader performance, talent development and succession processes, and organizational change efforts to support successful implementation. His expertise is both broad and deep, spanning the areas of executive assessment, coaching, organizational design, team effectiveness, and employee engagement.

Hal leverages his background in both internal and external consulting roles to bring a unique perspective to organizational transformation and human performance. Hal has worked with companies of varying sizes, ranging from large organizations to small startups, helping them to achieve growth, innovation, productivity, and organizational agility. He serves clients across several industries, including high-tech, retail, healthcare, and hospitality. Prior to joining RHR, Hal worked at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, HP Inc., and Facebook, where he designed talent management strategy, executive assessment and coaching practice, and global employee engagement programs.

“Hal brings a valuable perspective from having been responsible for leadership development activities in some large, highly sophisticated companies,” said Dr. Chris Treadwell, the senior partner responsible for RHR’s U.S. Western Region. “He knows from personal experience what is required to drive leadership effectiveness among senior leaders, both at the individual and the team level. We are thrilled to have someone of Hal’s experience and skills join our team.“

Examples of Hal’s recent work include working with a Fortune 50 high-tech organization to design a selection assessment process around the key characteristics required for both succession and acquisition of new executives; designing a succession process that both measured and addressed senior leader gaps through a model of assessment and coach-sponsored development and follow-up to enable change; and delivering and designing a successor development program for a large R&D function of a high-tech organization that enabled leaders to create impact and gain tangible experience leading various functions.

Hal received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Brigham Young University, a master’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology from Alliant International University, and a doctorate in industrial and organizational psychology from the University of Calgary. He currently serves as vice chair on the board of the Information Technology Survey Group, which is an organization of private-sector companies in the technology industry with members such as Google, Microsoft, Cisco, Dell, LinkedIn, and Qualcomm.
